What is your caste?- a 10th grader asked me. I answered politely but, that question still haunts me. What made that kid ask me that sort of question? Was it some school incident or was it something his parents taught about? Whatever it was, I now sincerely believe that his outlook has now become biased. Ours is a nation of great divides. We have linguistic differences, religious differences, caste-based inequalities and gender-based inequalities. Our society and culture as I decipher from historical texts was open and flexible. But it has morphed into something very rigid. That has worsened the scenario. I believe that the caste system has become obsolete. There is no more need to distinguish people based on caste. This caste based approach of distinguishing and differentiating is deep rooted in our social structure. On many spheres of life India as a culture and society is stagnant. We all know if water stagnates at some place it becomes a host of diseases. same is happening with us. We are plagued at various levels. what is worse, that we know we are plagued and won't or can't do anything about it. Imagine a society free of caste based and gender-based disparities. Imagine the India that shines in all its glory. Now, look for your role to play in Indian's future. get up and start moving.
